i dunno why but like as a child and still now slightly i was never attracted to the typical "superman" heroes, i guess i just found them boring. I don't really like Batman either. I do really like the Incredibles though, especially Violet's powers (i dunno, if i coudl choose any power having the ability to create a forcefield and/or turn invisible would be pretty high up on my list.)

That's not uncommon, really. I can talk about superhero comics but I have not really read many of them. There are only a handful of heros that I really enjoy reading about, and sometimes it's more a case of "this writer is amazing and I will read all of their works" instead of "this character is neat." It's why I read more webcomics. I'd like to get into more European comics, in fact I have a gigantic folder of bookmarks for series I'd like to read, but the market for them isn't quite large enough in the US yet so not many are actually translated.

There are some really great, original US comic series that have nothing to do with superheros as well (Y: The Last Man, Chew, among others), there's just a larger abundance in Europe.

I've read a great deal of both American and European comics and I have to say I tend to prefer the European ones. There's much more diversity to be found in it and I find it easier to find things that are very well written. If anyone is interested I greatly recommend Blacksad. It's a detective comic with some of the best linework I've seen.

Calling Blacksad a furry comic would be like saying Lackadaisy is for furries.

This just in: Stories which contain anthropomorphs are neither only relevant to upstanding members of society, nor only appreciated by upstanding members of society.

Anyone ever read any Spirou?

Image

I used to read the comics in Dutch at my grandparents' house, who had a few issues. I believe the series is still running to this day.

Apparently there have been a few iterations of the character, but from what I remember it revolves around Spirou and his friend Fantasio having all kinds of adventures. Like many European comics it's suited for children but has some darker elements which add a lot of depth adults can greatly enjoy.

Spirou is pretty great. There are some bad things here and there but overall the series is very enjoyable.
