Each state gives a certain amount of "points", and if you win the majority of votes in that state you get all the electoral votes. You need the majority of Electoral votes to win (270)

So Romney got the majority of votes in Texas so he gets all 38 electoral votes.
Obama will get the majority of votes in California, so he'll get the 55 electoral votes.

Each state has a number of votes according to their population. Whomever has the most popular vote in that state wins the state and is awarded however many votes the state is worth. Florida is worth 29 votes to whoever gets the majority vote.

Whoever gets 270 Electoral votes wins the election

There is a group of people sitting in the lobby of my dorm watching CNN. Constant election coverage. There is like one guy in the whole dorm who is Republican.

I sat with them for a while. Every time Obama gets more electoral votes, everyone would cheer. Every time Romney got more, everyone would start yelling and booing. The one Republican in the dorm sat there awkwardly silent the whole time.

Go sit by him and give him a hug or something, I'd hate to be all alone in enemy territory.

At least Obama got about 40% of the vote.

Florida is going to cause seizures at this rate.

Right now, if Romney wins Florida, all Obama needs to do is hold onto Wisconsin and Colorado to win, assuming the rest of the states don't flop.

Romney would need a mix of 3 states from Colorado, Nevada, Iowa, and Wisconsin, which right now, are looking to be the only "free" states up for grabs (ignoring Florida being weird).

Also, why is it that Huffington says that Romney won Wisconsin, yet every site I've been to, INCLUDING HUFFINGTON has it as a solid Obama win?
