More recent RP servers tend to be better than older RP servers. This is due to the fact that RP Griefers grew bored over the years, and a lot of the RPers on the old servers transfered to the new ones.
Ravenholdt and The Venture Co, both have fairly solid, and surprisingly large, RP communities, from personal experience.
Ya still have bad RPers (Jesus christ, your character does not need to be a long lost brother/sister of some famous lore person), but all in all, it's pleasant (JESUS CHRIST YOUR CHARACTER IS NOT HALF ELF, HALF GNOME WITH BLACK ANGEL WINGS).

My RP Character... I'm going to be lazy and just copy-paste what I told Fauche yesterday. Sorry if it's a little disjointed. It was a conversation, not really thought out planned paragraph.

Karilyn is the daughter of a family that has raised Kodos for several generations. When she was young, she was involved in an accident where she was trampled by a Kodo, and she hasn't been entirely there cognitively ever since. She ended up developed a single minded determination to become a proud Tauren Warrior, and protect her friends, her family, and her tribe. For the most part, she's extremely sweet and gentle. But if for any reason she believes her friends/family/tribe are in trouble, she becomes violent very quickly.
As of late, there's been a bit of a conflict/corruption in my character Karilyn, as she's started to become a bit more selfish and throw herself into dangerous situations more for the fun of it. A much less nobel reason, than to protect her loved ones.
She is known for her "retard strength" though I don't usually phrase it in that way. She's very simple minded So I get to do lots of cute things like that with her. And uh, a lot of violent things too. She once became enraged and killed a man over smashing a flower she was playing with. Admittedly the guy was a jerk and a bully, but still.
Karilyn expresses a lot of confusion over Horde/Alliance politics. She likes Draenais cause they have hooves too, and she likes Dwarves cause they have a lot of hair too. She calls Draenai her hoofsisters and hoofbrothers.
